"The Mainframe in 2006" ( or System Z as it is now known ), Paul plans to discuss the huge amount of investment within the platform, what is does best and where it is going. For example, as well as MVS ( known as z/OS ) & VM operating systems and COBOL, Batch, IMS, DB2 & CICS that have been around for decades there are also the 'newer' technologies Unix ( USS ), Linux, Web Services and the latest in cryptographic security for data. ie, using zVM on a single mainframe can support 100's, if not 1000's of Linux images as well as servicing other z/OS images running the more traditional workloads.

Paul will also talk about IBM's 'Mainframe Charter' Community Innovation & Value which was designed to demonstrate the mainframe is far from Dead or Dying.

If you are planning to attend, it would be helpful if you could email malcolm@malcolmgeorge.co.uk so that we can provide an appropriate level of refreshments.
